The City of New Orleans…..the jazz capital….the city of Creole culture and a vibrant history is home to Homecoming 2019. No other city has such different cultures, different ethnicities and traditions!

Homecoming 2019
Approximately every three years a special effort is made to involve as many alumni groups/schools/bases and Brats & Educators together for a BIG reunion called "Homecoming" hosted by OVERSEAS BRATS.

Since 1999 OVERSEAS BRATS has hosted seven Homecomings that involved 200 to 1,611 Brats & Educators.

OPTIONAL TOUR A: WWII Museum Visit/Movie/Luncheon/Show on Wednesday, August 14
On August 14, the day before the Homecoming officially kicks off, we have booked the Stage Door Canteen: Wednesday Matinee – luncheon and show for those that want to see “the” premier World War II Museum in the U.S. along with a WWII/USO type entertainment show! Shows are ONLY on Wednesdays and feature trios like the Victory Belles or the Vic-Tones. 

The day starts with: 
8:30 a.m. Bus pick up from Hotel 
9:00 a.m. arrival WWII Museum 
9:00-11:00 a.m. self tour Louisiana Memorial, Campaigns of Courage (to include the “Road to Berlin”) and the U.S. Freedom Pavilion
11:00 a.m. View the highly acclaimed film: “Beyond All Boundaries” in the Solomon Theatre   (48 minutes) 
Noon – Luncheon & entertainment show with (TBA) performers.
2:00pm   Final self tour of Museum, Gift Shop and Soda Shop
3:00pm   Bus departure for Hotel

Your Master Storyteller will entertain and educate you with historically accurate tales of haunting history of the French Quarter. You will be surprised to hear what some “nice” ladies and gentlemen are capable of doing! Wear comfortable shoes, this is a walking tour! Cameras are welcome on the tour (but no videotaping). 
Guide will meet & depart from Hotel but will end at Jackson Square.

Meet in Hotel Lobby for check-in. Bus to pick up curbside at 8 a.m. for tour.
Using small, 22 passenger boats you get close to wildlife, smell the swamp, touch the flora and see an authentic Cajun village. Feel safe being guided by generations of New Orleanians who have lived off the water. Return by 1 p.m. Tour limited so sign up early.

OPTIONAL TOUR D: Plantation Tour on Saturday, August 17, 9 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
Meet in Hotel Lobby for check-in. Bus p/u will be curbside.
Travel back in time with this tour. Not 1 but 2 historic sites: Oak Alley and Laura. Louisiana’s most famous plantations. Oak Alley Plantation with its tunnel of 28 oak trees that frame the plantation as you approach. Built in 1839 and faces the Mississippi. Laura is a 200+ year old sugarcane/Creole plantation with a rich history of the four women that ran it. Tour includes a box lunch.  Tour limited so sign up early.

Transportation Options

* Driving?
The hotel is accessible off of I-10.
Valet Parking at Hotel $47 per day. 
Self Park – one block from Hotel offers discounted parking/approximately $27-32 daily. A special booking LINK w/be forthcoming for advance booking at a “discount” with IN/OUT privileges as time nears.  

* Flying?
Fly into Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. (16 miles from hotel).
The Hotel is situated in the French Quarter. Taxis run approximately $38 one way plus tip, depending on traffic. 
Airport Shuttle Service is available and we have arranged a “Special Discount” for you/$36 round trip. You must book in advance (at least 24 hrs prior to your flight arrival) on-line at the LINK provided below to obtain the discount.  An information sheet/map of the shuttle location(s) is attached to the link. Print out and bring booking confirmation with you on day of travel. (You can make changes on-line if you need to readjust after booking).

9 a.m. - 3 p.m. = Mini-course sessions:

9 a.m. – 10:45 a.m. - Session I: “Bratman Returns” with Bratman alias Joe Condrill the President of OVERSEAS BRATS. There’s a LOT going out there in Bratdom. This is a general session for you to pick the topics and Bratman responds!

11 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Session II: “Black Participation in WW1.” A review of the significant contributions Blacks made during the ‘War to end all Wars.” Hosted by Dr. George Junne, Jr., a national authority on the role of Black involvement in the U.S. military from the French-Indian War to the present.

1 p.m. – 2:45 p.m. Session III: “The Story of the American Soldier is the Story of America.” Honorary Overseas Brat Dean Miller with Visit Fairfax will provide an update on the new National Museum of the United Sates Army, which is scheduled to open at Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County in 2020. This 200 million dollar project, following over 25 years of planning and four years of construction, will showcase the service and sacrifice of the more than 30 million men and women who have proudly worn the Army uniform since 1775. Dean will describe in detail the exhibits, interactive displays, special features and other facets of the museum that will make this a “must see” attraction for anyone who loves America!

Wear Mardi Gras Colors at Overseas Brats Homecoming 2019, in New Orleans LA, Aug 15-18, 2019 Casual-elegance described as polos, slacks, dresses. No shorts, nor blue jeans-please! While attire of any color combinations are welcomed a festive New Orleans/Mardi Gras color theme is what we're looking for here. Mardi Gras party, purple, green and gold are the traditional colors. The color scheme of Nawlins was selected in 1872; purple represents justice, green is for faith and gold is for power.

One can get really creative here (if they so wish) by doing mardi-gras masks/hats, facial gems, what have you!!!! Festive is the name of the game in Nawlins!

Saturday night's dinner/dance: HOT WHITE NIGHT!
Casual-elegance described as polos, slacks, dresses. No shorts, nor blue jeans-please! An all-white ensemble is ideal..... Ladies white dresses, white slacks, white blouses. Men white shirts with pants fit the bill.
